WHY DO PEOPLE COME TO PLAZA ACADEMY?
Our students typically feel like they "don't fit in or don't belong" in traditional school settings - either academically, socially, and/or emotionally. They typically have not felt a part of their community and oftentimes report having low self esteem.
WHERE DO OUR STUDENTS COME FROM?
We have students from all over the KC Metro area. We believe that Plaza Academy is KC's most diverse school as we welcome families from every race, belief system, socio-economic status, background history, etc. We have a zero tolerance for bullying. Plaza Academy is a safe space for all.
WHAT CAN YOU EXPECT FROM PLAZA ACADEMY CLASSES?
We want our students to become the best and most authentic version of themselves and we provide a safe and nurturing place to do so. We guarantee small class sizes, classes based on skill level and interest (not by grade level), rigorous curriculum that strives to ensure students see the relevance and make connections to what they are learning.
HOW DO WE DO IT?
We have a systemic series of checks and balances that is seamlessly built into our program, including hourly, daily, weekly, monthly, and semesterly rewards and consequences for student behavior. Our goal is to establish student accountability to they are not only aware of their actions, but can see the rewards and consequences of their behavior so they can make informed decisions.
WHAT DOES THE ENROLLMENT PROCESS LOOK LIKE?
The first step is to talk to our executive director, Ward Worley, who is a Plaza Academy graduate. Then you can schedule a time to tour the school and meet our staff prior to scheduling a shadow day. During a shadow say, the prospective student will attend classes alongside a similar-level current student so they can see how Plaza Academy really works and how they see themselves fitting into our family.
